St. Margaret Mary Parish was established on June 1, 1965, and Father Timothy “Tim” Pugh was appointed Administrator. St. Margaret Mary Catholic School was opened in September 1966 with 480 students in grades kindergarten through eight. A Benedictine Sister from St. Scholastica Convent in Covington came to Slidell to help establish the school.
On January 17, 1970, Reverend Monsignor Richard L. Carroll became the second pastor of the parish. Under his leadership and that of our former pastor, Reverend Monsignor Lanaux Rareshide, the school has continued to grow and expand into what it is today, a nationally recognized school of excellence with 435 students in grades prekindergarten through seven.
Today, we continue the rich tradition of quality Catholic education at Saint Margaret Mary School. Our program is approved by the Archdiocese of New Orleans and accredited by the Louisiana State Department of Education and Cognia, an international accreditation service. Our student body consists of 375 students and our faculty is composed of more than thirty members. All faculty at St. Margaret Mary School have Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Degrees and several hold Masters Degrees as well. Under the leadership of our pastor, Reverend Dan Darmanin, and our principal Mr. Christopher Collins,
St. Margaret Mary School carries on the tradion of encouraging our students to Pray, Think, Make, and Do.
